We, global local citizens

The first World Youth Meeting will be hosted in Puglia  from January 19th to 21st 2010 to launch the NMC project  (from Esperanto, Ni, mondlokaj civitanoj - We, global  local citizens).500 youth delegates from 90 countries of  the world together with more than 1000 people will discuss  with first-rate intellectuals, representants of the  governments and international organizations, knowledge  centres, media, civil society and the private sector. The  young people who will take part in the meeting will be  selected between those who will apply through this  website. The Meeting will revolve around 3 keynote  lectures and about 15 thematic workshops. The lectures  will focus on very important topics for the Meeting:  "Perspectives and Challenges for democracy in a world of  global cities" and "Environmental sustainability as  precondition for the human development" and "The new  frontiers for the social and economic development after  the global financial crisis". The workshop will focus on  global issues about the development and the potential of  facing them at a local level. The NMC project is a  mid-term programme that promotes the sustainable  development and the participation of young people in the  decision making process at both local and global level.  Its field of action is the whole world, in particular the  cities. NMC's time frame extends to 2020. It takes  inspiration from the Universal Declaration of the Human  Rights, the Objectives of the Millenium and the  Declaration on Social Justice for a fair globalization.  NMC devops a global-local environment where young people,  politicians, economic and social representatives,  international organizations, knowledge centres and  citizens can collaborate for a change towards a  sustainability while increasing youth participation in the  decision making process. NMC is the very first attempt to  gather this people in the pursuit of common goals. NMC is  promoted by the Presidence of the Board of Ministers, the  Italian Minister of the Youth, the Region of Puglia and  the National Youth Agency. More than 30 organizations all  over the world have contributed to the conception of NMC  such as the Interamerican development bank, Internation  Labour Organization, UNESCO, UNHABITAT, the UN Millenium  Campaign, UNDP, UCLG and the World Bank. NMC addresses to  all the young people who identify in themselves or their  organizations at least one of these features:

- Being active in planning and implementing new  initiatives, generate new approaches and stimulate  cultural changes;
- Being interested of the world fates and willing to  commit themselves in facing the problems of the social and  economic development, but also of the democracy, starting  from their own community;
- Being innovative in the solutions and interactive  methodologies with others;
- Being active citizens in the civil life, in contact with  networks and partners interested in the same issues.
