We are moving from the Gargano to the Salento and here are another 10 ideas for you to appreciate the beauty of our region. We will surely miss something, but our aim is not to describe thoroughly the Salento, but to show you 10 things you can do or see in Salento thanks to our links and our beautiful pictures. Remember that the number of the pictures corresponds to the numbers of the list. Have a nice trip!!!
10 things you should not miss when visiting Salento
1. Spend an afternoon diving into the enchanting Baroque art of Lecce (Santa Croce and Piazza Duomo), eating a good puccia for lunch and having a famous pasticciotto for dessert
2. A day in the Salento’s countryside across large fields with olive trees, small Baroque villages built with the stone from Lecce, discovering griko and a ciciri and tria.
3. Visiting the awe-inspiring Zinzulusa cave in Castro Marina
4. Dive into the sea of Gallipoli, on the beach near the old walls of the city
5. Reach Capo Leuca, the heel of the boot that is Italy and overlook at the highest altitude, close to the Sanctuary, where the Adriatic sea and the Ionic sea meet.
6. Attend the Night of the Taranta, in Melpignano, in the Grecìa Salentina, at the end of August.
7. Spend a day on the road along the Ionic coast to discover long beaches, crystal-clear sea and Saracen towers.
8. Admire the rocky coasts and the small bays along the sea of Santa Cesarea Terme.
9. Walk the streets and bastions of the old town of Otranto, near the castle, the Byzantine church while smelling the tempting in local restaurants.
10. Take an underwater excursion at the diving centre of Porto Cesareo
